If you are working from home or just trying to make the most of your home IT facilities, the help available to you extends beyond just getting set up or even the addition of new software, important though these and other things are.
Another way we can provide service support is through the addition of extra gadgets, which can help make life easier while you use your appliances.
The key question is what you really need. Get Gadget Insiders recently published a list of 50 ‘must have’ gadgets that home workers should get. Not all of these are directly IT-related; the list includes things like a standing desk (optional) and an ‘ergonomic chair’. But many were specific to the use of appliances.
Among these were a wireless keyboard, wireless mouse, microphone, wi-fi range extender and even a white noise machine to blot out sound from noisy neighbours of family members.
Whether all of these are truly necessary is another matter. Some may be useful, but others may not and you will benefit from focusing just on those things that meet a specific need.
Indeed, other lists of ‘must have’ gadgets for home workers are somewhat shorter. Remote Work Academy listed only seven.
For instance, it does not list a wireless keyboard or mouse, but does advise you should have ‘ergonomic’ ones. This means they are in the best position for your hands and arms to prevent issues like repetitive strain and carpal tunnel syndrome.
A reliable wi-fi system was also listed and this is indeed a must-have, as intermittent signal and outages can stop your work (or other internet use) in its tracks. A wi-fi mesh system can help expand the range of places where you can get a signal, so this is vital if you are going to work in more than one spot such as a home office.
There are many ‘must have’ devices that are no such thing. But others may be extremely useful, so don’t hesitate to contact us to see what we can install and help to improve your operations.
